Ethiopia (formerly called Abyssinia) is the oldest independent and proud nation in Africa and one of the oldest Christian nations in the world.
It has an ancient civilization dating back to over 3000 years.

Ethiopia is home to the largest number of UNESCO-registered heritage sites in the whole of East Africa. The most important are the archaeological site of Axum, the unique rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, and the lower valley of the Awash River.
