Religious holiday some detail are describe down, Festival, Saints days and other festivals have not been imposed by any law of God, they were established by the church herself. Some go back to apostolic times and others are later origin. There is a prodigious number of feasts in the Ethiopia church. The principal of the church are in nine feasts of the lord, thirty three feasts of our lady, the feasts of the apostles, Sunday, the feasts of the Angels, the feasts of the righteous (saints) and the feasts of the martyrs.

Religion plays an important part of life in Ethiopia. The orthodox Tewahedo church ceremonies are unique and impressive, especially Timket and Meskel festivals which provide colorful ceremonies and celebrations. People dress in traditional costume and celebrate festivals across the country with colorful unique ceremonies such as (New Year), Meskel (finding of the true cross), Ledet (Christmas), Timket (Epiphany) and Fasika (Easter).

Enkutatash (Ethiopia New Year)

Enkutatash (Ethiopic እንቁጣጣሽ) is the first day of the New Year in Ethiopia. It occurs on Meskerem 1 on the Ethiopian calendar, which is 11 September (or, during a leap year, 12 September) according to the Gregorian calendar.

Meskel (finding of the true cross)

Meskel is celebrated by dancing feasting and lighting a massive bonfire known in Ethiopia tradition “Demera”. Meskel commemorations the finding of true cross in the fourth century when Empress Helena, mother of Constantine the great, discovered the true cross on which Christ was crucified.

Kulubi (Feast of Saint Gabriel)

The feast of Saint Gabriel (Kulubi Gabriel), the archangel, is celebrated on December 19 Ethiopian calendar (December 28 Gregorian calendar) which culminates in a pilgrimage to Kulubi, about 68 kilometers from Dire Dawa. Orthodox Tewahedo Christians mark the celebration with colorful processions and ceremonies.

Ledet (Christmas)

Ledet (Christmas) falls on December 29 Ethiopian calendars (January 7th). Christmas is celebrated after 43 days fasting known as Tsome Gahad (advent), with a spectacular procession, which begins at 6 am and lasts until 9 am.

Timket (Epiphany)

Timket is one of the greatest festival in the Ethiopia orthodox Tewahedo church calendar. It commemorates Chris’s baptism by Saint John in the Jordan River.

Fasika (Ethiopian Eastern)

Fasika or Easter is celebrated after 55 days severe lent fasting (Hudade or Abye Tsome). Orthodox Tewahedo Christians do not eat meat and diary products for the whole 55 days. Vegetarian meals such as lentils, ground split, peas, grains, fruit and varieties of vegetable stew accompanied by injera and / or bread are only eaten on these days.

Irreecha

Irreecha the Oromo national and cultural holiday has been celebrated with over 3000 million oromians in the blessing festival. The expression signifies the end of one season and the beginning of another season, which incidentally is the beginning of a new year according to Oromo time reckoning.

Ashendye or Shadey

Ashendye is festival celebrated in August in the Amahara and Tigray region of Ethiopia. Ashendye marks the end of a two-week-long fast known as Filseta (tome Filseta) when adherents of Ethiopian orthodox Tewahedo church gather to honour the Virgin Mary.
